Storybook Saturday
The Evil Queen


 For this round of Storybook Saturday, I wanted to remain a bit on the generic side and allow for creativity for anyone doing the challenge. An evil queen can be from a popular fairy tale or it can come from the imagination. I actually chose to draw inspiration from a digital artwork from Deviant Art simply called 'Raven'.

Storybook Saturday
The Roman Empire


"Veni, vidi, vici."
 I came. I saw. I conquered.

It's Saturday! Time for a new week of Storybook Saturday. This week's theme is the Roman Empire, which expanded throughout the reaches of Europe to the Middle East. I was inspired to do this challenge after visiting the numerous role-play SIMs in Second Life revolving around ancient times, including the Isle of Pandateria - also known as Ventotene. 

There are many wonderful things in SL revolving around ancient times, including housing prefabs, costuming, decor. The dress I'm wearing from GSpot is available at the latest round of We <3 RP. Also, if you really want to get a good look at an interpretation of Rome, check out HBO's Rome because it's absolutely stunning. Special thanks to my friend Julia Caesaris Minor for posing with me!

Storybook Saturday
The Medieval Court


Today's Storybook Saturday kicks off with the medieval court theme. I am not sure if I've ever worked so hard on a blog post in my entire life. For one thing when I think 'medieval court' I think just shy of the pre-renaissance era with the Tudor architecture and the colorful society that made up the king's court. I had a serious hard time finding a suitable place to take my photo - and that is after trying to find a suitable dress that I felt represented the 'look' of the times I was going for. But here I am, Princess Kel dressed up to the 9's in a court gown. If you want to participate, read about the challenge here.

Galactic Beauty


Here is my inspiration of for my Storybook Saturday! I've always loved the Twi'lek race of the Star Wars lore. Return of the Jedi is the first memory I have of seeing a movie in the movie theater, and even though I was really young, I think the scene of Oola and Jabba always left an impression on my child's brain. Here's some Twi'lek info from the 'official' Wookiepedia:

Twi'leks (pronounced /'twilÉ›k/), sometimes referred to disparagingly as"Tail-heads", were an omnivorous humanoid species originating from the planet Ryloth. They tended to eat cultivated molds, fungi, and rycritmeat. Their distinctive features included colorful skin, which varied in pigment from individual to individual, and a pair of shapely prehensile tentacles that grew from the base of their skulls. The tentacles, called "brain-tails", "lekku", "tchun-tchin", or "head-tails" were advanced organs used for communication and cognitive functions. Twi'leks possessed a fairly standard humanoid vocal structure and were capable of learning most alien languages; however, they usually preferred their native language of Ryl, which incorporated subtle movement of the lekku. When they wished, they could even communicate in complete secrecy using their versatile brain-tails. Twi'lek females were often used as slaves or dancers because of their beauty.

Did you know that there's a new Star Wars SIM opening? I didn't! It's called New Alderaan & Bakura. I'm told from one of the SIM owners that the official opening of the city 'New Alderaan' opens on this coming Tuesday, but the capital 'Bakura' is still under construction. There are many faction groups to join - everything from the galactic army to the seedy doings of the cantinas. If you want to look around, here is your taxi.

Storybook Saturday 
A SL blogger & photographer challenge



I have been so inspired lately by the many items and places I've seen in Second Life that I've decided to showcase a blogger challenge. At first I thought to keep it personal an within the confines of my own blog, but then decided that it might be a fun undertaking for some of you and so here it is!

Storybook Saturday is a weekly themed challenge devoted to all things fiction in Second Life. Be it fantasy, history, or science fiction. There are no rules for your photo save that it must fit in with the theme. You can do a 'look book' photo, do a landscape, or just do an image that tells a story about your avatar in the particular theme.  Each theme is rotated every Saturday, beginning with today.

Breakfast at Keliah's


Blogger Strawberry Singh posted a fun challenge. Make a movie poster! I've always wanted to recreate a Breakfast at Tiffany's picture, but never got around to it. I initially tried to include Cat, but my zooby cat is just too big and a bit too orange. I almost lost this image, too. A random thunderstorm blew right through and just as I was hitting the 'save' button on my photo, my power flickered off. I hit save at just the right time!

A Night at the Oscars
It's Oscar Night (though probably most of us will be watching The Walking Dead.) The awards ceremony in itself is not the biggest draw for me, but rather the elegant gowns and suits worn by Hollywood's elite - some gorgeous, some not so much. 

In celebration of the Oscars, Harper's 'Around the Grid with Harper' is hosting a fashion contest for those of us wanting to show off our favorite formals and this is my entry. I've been looking for an excuse to buy Lavish II gown from Apple May.

Think Spring


There's no doubt that the grid is ready for spring. Spring landscapes. Spring styles. Spring events. We're all looking forward to March and April themed things and wishing away the bitter cold of winter (at least those who know what it feels like unlike myself :P) ColdLogic is the first I've seen to amp us all up for spring fashions with the release of their fun, sunny-colored dresses and cardigan blends. You can grab a demo at their inworld store. Also, if you haven't subscribed to their group, make sure you do! Not only are their two fabulous dresses for free, the ColdLogic team is also hosting a photo contests and the prize is pretty attractive. In fact, this picture is my first entry.

I mentioned that the grid is blooming with Spring - especially with "It Starts with a Smile", the home of blogger and photographers Kaelyn Alecto and Maxxster. It's open to visitors and provides a beautiful backdrop with many scenes for SL photographers.

Cotton Candy


I know I very recently blogged the new Sense and Sensuality corset from FATAL, but I couldn't resist using this gorgeous set (sans bra) for Unapologetic SecondLife Fashion's '50 Shades of Sexy'. This is a challenged geared towards lingerie, items which don't see as much blog action as the rest of the SL fashion market. 

So I raided my virtual panty drawer looking for something that fit the 'Cotton Candy' of this week's theme. I thought about using this bra and panty set from Onyx Wear, but decided on this underbust corset from FATAL was my ticket to sex appeal.

Hucci Contests


I guess I'm feeling pretty creative today. With the bustle of the holidays and other goings on, it's been more difficult for me to really focus on things. Earlier this month, Hucci, one of my favorite designers, decided to host a photo contest. I normally am not one to enter things like this, but with my success in Bilo and Handverk's compilation, I decided to give this one a go too.

This photo was taken at E U P H O R I A shopping mall. They have these wonderful stairs with glowing strips of light on the edges. I thought they would compliment the vibrant color of my mini dress.

Statement Piece


What I've learned from Project Runway: Fashion is always about the statement piece. A statement piece is that one item in the wardrobe that the rest of your look compliments. Sometimes it's a dress, or a pair of pumps, or maybe it's your accessory.

I decided to be a bit different. Even though the necklace here has something to say, the statement piece in this picture is the chair. It's an accessory all on it's own. It's colorful pop is really what makes the photo here. Not my classic sheath dress from Bilo, or the now vintage Baby T's from Pixel Mode. The furniture in this outfit has changed my Breakfast at Tiffany's look to something more modern. 

Here is my second submission for Bilo and HANDverk's collaboration photo contest. As mentioned in my previous post, both stores have joined forces to inspire a creative photograph contest. The prize? A chunk of change and more importantly - substantial store credit in both stores.

52 Weeks of Color: Hunter Green


It's another round of 52 Weeks. I used this challenge to dig through my virtual closet and try to scare up something I hadn't worn for awhile and found this sweater from Acid and Mala, which used to be one of my favorite stores. Sadly, they haven't really jumped on the mesh bandwagon. Still, on the older things, some of the textures are golden and will more than likely forever remain a part of my wardrobe. 

Also, I think I'm rocking green eyes pretty well. Truth, as you know, released three new hairs (one of them being a free subscriber gift!) and this one, Guinevere, is my favorite. It's so pretty.
